The Nepean Blue Mountains Health District offers a wide range of Medical Imaging (Radiology), Nuclear Medicine, and Nuclear Medical Therapy procedures through our various facilities/services with a goal to help diagnose, assess, and treat patient's injury or disease.

An exciting opportunity is now available within the Radiology Team located at Lithgow Hospital for a Sonographer. 

Your role will provide high quality imaging that is patient focused, according to the objectives and policies of NBMLHD.  The Medical Radiation Scientist (MRS) is personally accountable for their work and professional conduct and shall adhere to the Guidelines for Professional Conduct for Radiographers and Radiation Therapists and as outlined in the Statement of Practice by Sonographers as issued by the Australian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine.

You will demonstrate a high level of proficiency and knowledge in ultrasound through the proven ability to competently perform a range of complex and routine clinical procedures and will participate in the development and review of protocols and techniques utilising reports, CPD activities and publications to maintain a high level of expertise in the relevant area .They will participate in the CPD program for MRS and sonographers and other health professionals as well completing mandatory performance development and training as prescribed by the LHD. The MRS will participate and support quality improvement activities at section and departmental levels.

This position will see you supervise and be responsible for other MRS`S,undergraduates  and trainees as required and will assist with the assessment of clinical competence of trainee Sonographers.

What you will bring to the role

  1. Degree in Medical Radiation Science and registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA ) as a Medical Radiation Practitioner (Diagnostic Radiography)
  2. Current I14 Radiation licence from NSW EPA and ASAR Registration
  3. Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Diagnostic Ultrasound
  4. Demonstrated high standard of knowledge , clinical experience and proficiency in Ultrasound across a broad range of examinations
  5. An ability to supervise, instruct and mentor other MRS and undergraduates
  6. Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
  7. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
  8. Experience in MSK , Vascular and General Ultrasound
