What you will bring to the role

  1. Tertiary qualification in Social Work and eligibility for AASW membership.
  2. Substantial post-graduate clinical experience providing social work services to children and adolescents with mental health issues. Demonstrated advanced knowledge of psychosocial issues that arise for young people and families during acute and chronic mental health presentations and trauma. Demonstrated clinical skill in providing assessment, care planning, and therapeutic intervention for adolescent’s mental health presentations within a clinical health setting. Experience in an inpatient/acute unit is desirable.
  3. Demonstrated ability to undertake comprehensive psychosocial, family and risk assessments (including child protection, domestic and family violence, safety and vulnerability), and to develop, implement and review evidence-informed, recovery-oriented and trauma-informed social work interventions for young people and their families/carers.
  4. Proven experience in complex care coordination and system navigation across government and non-government services, including NDIA-related supports, welfare and income support, housing and homelessness services, youth and family support agencies, education and other community providers, to enhance safety, stability, participation and sustainable recovery.
  5. Demonstrated contribution to service development, policy/protocol development, quality improvement and evaluation to enhance clinical outcomes and service delivery in a child and adolescent and/or inpatient mental health setting.
  6. Highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to engage sensitively and effectively with young people and their families/carers from diverse backgrounds; demonstrated ability to provide clear, timely documentation and reports consistent with NSW Health, legal and professional (AASW) standards.
  7. Demonstrated experience in providing clinical supervision, consultation and mentoring to social workers, students and/or other staff, supporting capability building in psychosocial assessment, risk, child protection, family-inclusive practice and systems advocacy, consistent with AASW supervision standards.
  8. Demonstrated ability to work flexibly and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced inpatient environment, including willingness to work after-hours and weekends as required, and to attend other CYF-MH sites. Current Driver’s Licence and willingness to use for work-related travel.
