Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical/dental practitioners for the above position in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District. The position will be primarily located at Nepean Hospital within the Department of Paediatrics.
Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 6 months will be considered. If successful, the applicant will not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.
Successful applicants will be primarily responsible for the Paediatric Diabetes Service which includes management of patients within the diabetes outpatient clinics, clinical support for Children’s Ward inpatients, administrative and service development, supervision, and provision of teaching for JMO staff and students and on call as required. There will be opportunities to be involved in developing a paediatric endocrine service with the support of the general paediatrician’s with outpatient general paediatric endocrinology and the neonatal intensive care for neonatal endocrine consults. Clinical research will be strongly encouraged including supporting the imminent joining of the Nepean service with the Australian Diabetes Database network (ADDN). Other related research opportunities are available with the existing links to the University of Sydney Nepean Clinical School and the Nepean Charles Perkins Centre Research Hub
Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and privileging across all other facilities in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District

- Possess or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Possess General Paediatrics Fellowship and/or Paediatric Endocrinology Subspecialty Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) or equivalent as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997 and the Staff Specialists (State) Award and evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
- Sound clinical knowledge in Paediatric endocrinology demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality assurance activities relevant to the specialty.
- Have demonstrated an interest and experience in medical management of paediatric diabetes.
- High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching, administrative experience and junior medical staff supervision consistent with contemporary best practice supervision standards.
- Demonstrates the skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including modelling of a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.
- Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied, or clinical research as required within the Department.
Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997, and the Staff Specialists (State) Award
The position requires a Working with Children Check (WWCC) issued by the office of the Children’s Guardian.
