About the Role

As a Health and Security Assistant - Wardsman, you will play an important role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the hospital by providing patient transportation, assistance with movement and transfers, and a range of ward support services. Working closely with clinical and non-clinical teams, you will help maintain a safe, efficient and responsive healthcare environment while ensuring patients are treated with dignity and respect.

The role also incorporates health and security responsibilities, including responding to aggressive or challenging behaviours, attending duress situations when required, and contributing to the overall safety of patients, visitors and staff. You will be expected to adhere to infection prevention and control requirements, environmental cleaning standards, safe manual handling practices and workplace health and safety procedures. This position operates across a seven-day rotating roster, including mornings, afternoons, nights, weekends and public holidays.

About You

You are a reliable, adaptable and patient-focused professional who enjoys working in a hands-on role within a busy healthcare environment. You thrive as part of a multidisciplinary team, can take direction when needed, and are equally capable of working independently to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and safely.

You have experience managing challenging situations and are confident responding to aggressive incidents, behavioural concerns and emergency situations in a calm and professional manner. Your strong communication and interpersonal skills enable you to interact effectively with patients, carers, visitors and colleagues from a wide range of backgrounds.

You demonstrate a sound understanding of infection control, environmental cleaning practices, workplace health and safety principles, and safe manual handling techniques. You are comfortable working in sensitive environments and have an understanding of, and willingness to work within, a morgue environment when required.

To succeed in this role, you will hold a current Class 1A Security Licence issued by the NSW Security Licensing & Enforcement Directorate (SLED), a current Senior First Aid Certificate and a current driver's licence. Most importantly, you will bring a positive attitude, a commitment to teamwork and a genuine desire to contribute to the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care.

What you'll be doing
Providing a safe and secure environment for staff, patients and visitors, and assisting clinical staff in the care and comfort of patients.
