This state-of-the-art inpatient unit is the newest chapter in the Child, Youth and Family Mental Health (CYFMH) story, expanding its reach to provide compassionate, specialised care from the earliest stages of life through to young adulthood. NAHMU isn’t just a place of healing, it’s a vital step forward in empowering young people and their families with the support they need, when they need it most.

Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District is seeking an experienced and passionate Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join the Nepean Adolescent Mental Health Unit (NAMHU) at Nepean Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a specialist multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality, recovery-oriented Mental Health care to young people and their families. As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will provide expert Clinical Leadership and advanced Nursing care to adolescents with significant Mental Health needs. 

This role will see you play a key role in clinical decision-making, care planning, staff support, and service improvement initiatives. You will participate in comprehensive Mental Health assessments, risk management, and care coordination, collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team including Psychiatry, Psychology, Allied Health, and Social Work whilst contributing to quality improvement, education, and policy development.

What you will bring to the role:

  1. Current registration as a Registered Nurse Division 1 with AHPRA. Relevant post-registration qualifications and at least 3 years’ experience working in Mental Health/Child and Adolescent Mental Health Nursing or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate.
  2. Demonstrated capacity to provide effective nursing care that is person centred, family inclusive and culturally sensitive to people accessing health services.
  3. Demonstrated ability to perform in a clinical leadership role and use critical thinking as it relates to the delivery of advanced evidenced based Nursing care.
  4. Demonstrated effective communications written and verbal skills.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to professional development.
  6. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision maintaining involvement within the wider multidisciplinary team.
  7. Ability to work a flexible roster, day evening or night shift across all days of the week according to the unit or team requirements.
