About the role

This role of Senior Epidemiologist/Biostatistician in the Centre for Alcohol and Other Drugs is within the Toxicity Response, Epidemiology and Surveillance team. This role is focused on:  

  • Surveillance and analysis of data on alcohol and other drug (AOD) use and related harms

  • Environmental scanning for emerging substances and issues

  • Triage and risk assessment of incidents involving AOD and poisoning

  • Coordinating public health responses to toxicity incidents    

Crown Clerk 9/10, starting salary from $129,464 plus Super and annual leave loading, with a 35-hour work week, work location- 1 Reserve Road, St Leonards.

What you'll be doing

  • Co-ordinate a portfolio of activities to enhance surveillance of AOD use and related harms in NSW by monitoring and interpreting data from multiple sources.

  • Contribute to public health responses to reduce AOD related harm

  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders within NSW Health, other government and non-government organisations in relation to AOD policy, initiatives and programs and to reduce public health risks

  • Use robust project management methodologies to manage people and resources through all stages of a project and policy cycle (planning, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation)

  • Prepare high quality written advice and reports, data and surveillance reports, drug alerts, briefs, correspondence, and cabinet documents to inform or respond to NSW Health, media or other government requests   
     

About you  
We are seeking motivated and committed individuals who can support the work of NSW Health with: 

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health surveillance and reporting or related discipline or equivalent professional experience

  • Extensive experience working in epidemiology, surveillance, or biostatistics

  • Current knowledge of population health information, analytics and monitoring systems and good analytical, conceptual and communication skills

  • The ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders

  • A growth mindset, and commitment to continuous learning and personal development

  • The ability to work in a dynamic multidisciplinary team environment
