The System Information and Analytics (SIA) branch enables the Ministry of Health to be an effective health service purchaser and system manager through high quality data, analysis and performance reporting. The branch ensures that NSW Health meets its state and national reporting obligations and maintains high standards of public accountability and transparency in the health system.  

Staff of the branch use their data management and analytical expertise to support key decision-makers within the Ministry of Health and the wider NSW Health. This includes high quality and timely information on the performance, service utilisation, activity forecasting and modelling of LHDs and other health services. The branch also responds to information requests from the Parliament, media and other health system stakeholders.

We have an opportunity for a Senior Analyst to join the System Information and Analytics Branch to develop and prepare data submissions, conduct statistical analyses on health service performance insights, and provide service and expert advice on system performance data, measurements, analyses and information to inform and support system management of service activity, service performance and broader health service objectives. 

Crown Clerk 9/10, starting salary from $129,464 - $142,665 plus Super and annual leave loading, with a 35-hour work week.

What you'll be doing  

The Senior Analyst will be part of the Performance Analysis and Reporting Unit from the System Information and Analytics Branch. The Senior Analyst will be developing and preparing datasets for external data submissions. The Senior Analyst will also provide statistical advice and conduct statistical analysis of health datasets to provide strategic insights of the health system to inform decision making in health service activity and performance improvement.   

About you  
We are seeking motivated and committed individuals who can support the work of NSW Health with:  

  • Postgraduate degree in biostatistics or similar discipline

  • Sound knowledge of NSW Health administrative data collections

  • Good experience in analysing large health datasets in NSW

  • Extensive experience in complex data processing and the proficient use of statistical analysis software, including proficiency in SAS, or R, or similar programming languages

  • High level knowledge of statistical concepts and methods, and substantial experience in applying related statistical analysis and data processing, and knowledge and experience of working with large relational databases, and experience in applying data quality principles in practice

  • Ability to work flexibly and in an agile team environment

Include the project background, your role in the project, how you went about refining the research questions and determining the most appropriate statistical methods, the outcome and conclusions, and the communication of results to relevant audiences.
