About this role
You'll be joining the largest public health system in Australia and contribute to a world-class health system in NSW.


The Principal Officer (Program Funding) provides expert financial advice and information to support the development, implementation and maintenance of financial policy, procedures and strategic initiatives for the Mental Health Branch. This includes the financial and economic evaluation of business cases and cabinet submissions, and the development and/or revision of complex cost allocation and funding methodologies.

Crown Clerk Grade 11/12, starting salary from $139,787 - $161,663 p.a. plus Super and annual leave loading, with a 35-hour work week.

What you'll be doing

  • Provide expert financial advice to support the development, implementation and maintenance of financial policy, procedures and strategic initiatives for the Mental Health Branch.
  • Undertake complex financial analyses of Branch funding structures to provide input to financial performance assessments and the development/revision of cost allocation and funding methodologies.
  • Contribute to the efficient and effective functioning of the Mental Health Branch, through the identification and implementation of improvements in financial practices and processes, including the development and/or revision of finance policy and procedures specific to the Mental Health Branch.
  • Prepare high quality correspondence, reports, submissions and briefings for the Executive Director – Mental Health, Ministry’s Mental Health Executive team, Deputy Secretary for Health System Strategy and Patient Experience Division, the Minister and other relevant stakeholders. 


About you 

We are seeking motivated and committed individuals who can support the work of NSW Health with: 

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in accounting and full membership, or eligibility for full membership (and a preparedness to undertake the studies required to obtain membership) of a recognised Australian professional accounting body
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Australian Accounting Standards, public sector accounting requirements and financial management legislation and procedures
  • Extensive skills and experience in financial, budgetary or economic analysis within a large and complex organisation and a proven ability to provide clear and accurate financial reports and advice for management and other stakeholders
  • The ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
  • A growth mindset, and commitment to continuous learning and personal development.
  • The ability to work in a small dynamic team environment.
