About the role

We are seeking a high-performing individual to join the Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Strategy, Policy and Engagement team. The Senior Policy Officer role leads a diverse portfolio with the opportunity to work on various strategic and other Government priorities. It is a dynamic role, where priories can change. A resilient attitude, high degree of adaptability, and being a good team player is required.  

  

The individual will need a good awareness of the machinery of government and risk, with the ability to be able to communicate to a diverse range of audiences.   

  

Key focus areas include: 

  • Managing government processes

  • Project management  

  • Rapid, high-quality policy advice 

  • Stakeholder management and engagement  

Crown Clerk 9/10, starting salary from $129,464 - $142,665 plus Super and annual leave loading, with a 35-hour work week, work location- 1 Reserve Road, St Leonards

What you'll be doing

This role sits within the Strategy, Policy and Engagement team and works to:    

  • Conduct policy analysis to provide timely, strategic advice

  • Leverage your ability to write with clarity and influence to communicate effectively with different audiences.

  • Engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, drawing on your deep understanding of inter-agency operations to build collaborative working relationships.

  • Navigate complex government systems with confidence, using your expertise in public sector processes to efficiently drive approvals and outcomes. 

  This role works with key stakeholders nationally, across other NSW Government agencies and within NSW Health.   

  

About you

We are seeking motivated and committed individuals who can support the work of NSW Health with:  

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent professional experience, in areas such as public health, strategy, policy or government relations.

  • Substantial experience in the development and implementation of strategy and policy in a complex and multi-disciplinary environment, preferably in the health context.

  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of government processes, policies and legislation impacting on public health, AOD service delivery or related areas.  

  • A team player, who can work effectively in an agile and dynamic team environment.  

  • The ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders. 

  • A growth mindset, and commitment to continuous learning and personal development.
