About the Role
The Paediatric Nurse Practitioner/Transitional Nurse Practitioner utilises their expert knowledge base, complex decision-making skills, and clinical competencies for expanded practice. They are an integral member of the health care team who practices in collaboration with other health professionals to assess and manage paediatric patients within their clinical context using nursing knowledge and skills. The Paediatric Nurse Practitioner/Transitional Nurse Practitioner contributes to departments, the organisation, and the community through involvement in education, research, quality improvement, and professional leadership. A registered nurse in transitional role will undertake supervised practice, whilst working towards endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner.
Key Objectives and focus of the Paediatric NP/TNP:
- Lead the delivery of a Paediatric Ambulatory Care Service at a Level 4 Paediatric Facility.
- Conduct clinical procedures in the paediatric ambulatory care setting including central line access, pathology collection and evaluation, complex wound management, medication prescribing/administration, monitoring and observation.
- Conduct acute review and follow-up for patients in the ambulatory care setting including following early discharge, referrals from general practitioners/emergency department presentations, and on return from tertiary facilities.
- Undertake planned and supported day only admissions for observations and procedures (e.g. infusions). Secondary Focus for Advanced Scope
- Provision of expert paediatric consultation and advice for critically unwell and complex paediatric patients, within the emergency department, intensive care and paediatric units to support implementation of the Paediatric High Acuity Protocol
- Provision of expert neonatal consultation and advice for acute and ongoing management of the sick neonate.
- Support paediatricians to provide expert clinical guidance and education to networked peripheral facilities.
This is a Full-Time role based at the Coffs Harbour Health Campus.
About You
You will need to hold a current registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia and a current practicing certificate as a Nurse Practitioner or working towards endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner with the ability to complete all requirements within 2 years of commencement. Do you have evidence of relevant paediatric and neonatal clinical expertise with a high degree of knowledge and the ability and necessary skills to develop practice consistent with Nurse Practitioner practice standards.
Do you have demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and accountability while also working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment along with demonstrated high level of capability in carrying out a range of advanced paediatric and neonatal procedures, treatments and interventions that are evidence based and informed by specialist knowledge. The hospital provides a broad range of general and specialist services including general medicine, general surgery, specialist medicine and surgical services, day surgery, planned and emergency operating theatre surgical services. The Hospital also has a coronary care unit (including coronary angiography unit), a large intensive care unit, obstetrics, paediatrics, a 24-hour Emergency Department, oncology, palliative care, stroke, acute renal dialysis, mental health services (including high dependency) and outpatient clinics. In addition to operating a large acute hospital we offer sub-acute services including inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, a regional psychiatric service, specialist clinics, dialysis and a range of outreach services. Patients requiring neurosurgery or heart surgery are transferred to other facilities for these
