At Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) we provide a range of public health services to the Riverina & Murray regions of New South Wales. Our Mental Health, Drug & Alcohol teams provide critical services within acute, sub-acute & community settings. We are known for our innovative models of care designed for the rural & regional population we serve.

What you'll be doing

The Visiting Medical Officer will provide Psychiatric services within the Murrumbidgee LHD as directed by the Clinical Director. The position entails a telehealth clinic at fortnightly intervals, at 8 hours per session. Periodically it will be advantageous for the Psychiatrist to visit the team and review some consumers face to face. Face to face clinics are renumerated at 11 hours per day. Consumers will be both Older Persons and Adults with mental health concerns. The Working collegiately with a multi-disciplinary team is essential in all VMO positions.This care will be provided within the scope of practice granted by the LHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee. Preference will be given to those with an Older Persons Mental health subspecialty.

Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstrated significant experience in the relevant nominated specialty practice and evidence of competence in skills relevant to Australian rural hospital practice, including trauma and emergency scenarios.
  2. Evidence of a Medical qualification that is registrable with the: Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health service colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to continuing medical education relevant to area of practice and a willingness to commit to an equitable hospital on-call roster.
  5. Willingness to teach medical students and other staff of the hospital when reasonably requested with demonstrated understanding of and commitment to clinical quality improvement and peer review, equal employment opportunity and Occupational Health Safety and Rehabilitation.
  6. Evidence of a Fellowship of a recognised Australasian Specialist College in the area of specialty and proof of recognition as a specialist by the Specialists Recognition Advisory Committee.
  7. Evidence, after full registration, of no less than five years in the practice of medicine in New South Wales Health System or in any other institution deemed by the LHD to be of equivalent standing inclusive no less than three years in supervised specialist training and/or experience.
