About the role
In this role, you’ll provide strengths‑based, community‑focused counselling to individuals and families experiencing stress related to drought and rural hardship, meeting people where they feel most supported.
You’ll work autonomously across the district while collaborating with MLHD mental health teams, delivering evidence‑informed interventions that build resilience, connection and wellbeing in rural communities.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Provide supportive, strengths‑based counselling to people experiencing stress in drought‑affected rural communities
- Deliver practical, evidence‑informed interventions like CBT, mindfulness and single‑session approaches.
- Connect with local farming and community networks to reach those who need support most.
- Help clients access services through clear advice, referrals and advocacy.
- Travel across the district to meet people where they feel comfortable and supported.
- Your contribution as a healthcare professional will have a meaningful and positive impact, which is felt at a community level.
Employment type: Full Time Temporary (until 30 June 2026, with possibility of extension)
Position classification: Psychologist, Social Worker, Sexual Assault Worker
Renumeration: $76,364.00 - $117,755.00 per annum (+ super +17.5% leave loading where applicable)

What We’re Looking For:
- Relevant tertiary qualification with registration or professional peak body eligibility.
- Extensive experience in Counselling skills using strength- based and resilient building approaches.
- Advanced leadership skills with experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
- Critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making ability.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.
