Southern NSW Local Health District covers a large area of the state, from Goulburn and Crookwell to the Victorian border, and surrounds the ACT on three sides, a total of 44 537sq kms.  It extends from the pristine beaches of the NSW South Coast, the farmlands of the Southern Tablelands, across the picturesque Great Dividing Range and the spectacular Snowy Mountains. We are home to four large Aboriginal nations – the Gundungurra, Ngunnawal, Ngarigo and Yuin.

Southern NSWLHD comprises of 2 Networks - Inlands centred around Goulburn, Monaro, Queanbeyan and Cooma, AND Coastal centered around Bega, Batemans Bay and Moruya in the far south-east corner of NSW and the Integrated Care Network.

Southern NSW Local Health District covers a large area of the Southern half of NSW. Surrounding the ACT on three sides and all the way down to the Victorian border, it extends from the pristine beaches of the NSW South Coast, the farmlands of the Southern Tablelands, across the picturesque Great Dividing Range and the spectacular Snowy Mountains. Our Offer:

Essential Criteria:

  • MBBS or equivalent, currently registered as a Specialist with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Applicants must have Fellowship of a recognised Australasian Specialist College or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia and/or practiced in the medical profession for at least 10 years as the holder of General Registration and be in a General Practice training fellowship pathway.
  • NSW Working with Children's Check
  • National Police Check
  • Compliance with NSW Health OASV Policy
  • Class C Driver's License - the ability to travel up to 5 hours a day as require

 

Your Opportunity:

  • Provide senior clinical leadership to colleagues, patients, and key stakeholders • Deliver high-quality person-centred end of life care to patients seeking access to VAD, and compassionate support to the patient's family and carers.
  • Fulfil the role of Coordinating, Consulting and/or Administering Practitioner for patients that request Voluntary Assisted Dying.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across SNSWLHD including Managers, Medical, Nursing and Allied Health.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in primary and private healthcare settings.
  • Comply with the NSW Voluntary Assisted Dying Act (2022) legislation and relevant NSW health policy, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Maintain mandatory education and training requirements relevant to Voluntary Assisted Dying as determined by the Ministry of Health.
  • Travel within SNSWLHD to provide VAD services to people requesting access, supporting private entities, Residential Aged Care Facilities, Disability services as required in their management of VAD cases


Selection Criteria:

  1. For Coordinating and Consulting Practitioner Roles: currently registered as a Specialist with the Medical Board of Australia or practiced in the medical profession for at least 10 years as the holder of General Registration.
  2. For Administering Practitioner Roles: currently registered as a specialist or practiced in the medical profession for at least 5 years as the holder of General Registration or be an overseas trained specialist with provisional or limited registration.
  3. Consistently demonstrates behaviors that reinforce the CORE Values of NSW Health, Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviors with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
  4. Demonstrated strong communication and teamwork skills as they apply to clinical care and clinical decision making for the provision of VAD services.
  5. Sound knowledge of and commitment to clinical quality and patient safety, work health and safety, working within NSW Health Policy and current clinical practice guidelines.
  6. Demonstrated strong understanding of the NSW Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2022.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to continuing self-education and professional development, including evidence of participation in continuing medical education and continuing professional development.
  8. A: Completed or will complete upon appointment VAD Authorised Practitioner mandatory training. B: 9. Demonstrates a willingness to travel within SNSWLHD to provide VAD services to people requesting VAD


Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specific Diseases

This is a Category ‘A’ position, please read and understand NSW Health policy directive PD2024_015. All new employees must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. OASV requirements also include proof of vaccination against influenza and is compulsory for NSW Staff that enter any Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) or who work in NSW Health owned and operated RACFs.
