Seeking a highly experienced Senior Social Worker, with extensive child and family counselling and casework skills, to join our interdisciplinary Brighter Beginnings Child and Family Community Health. You'll have the opportunity to support families with preschool-age children to optimise their capacity to promote their children's health, wellbeing, development, and lifelong potential.

What you'll be doing
The Senior Social Worker (SW)
works both autonomously and collaboratively within the interdisciplinary Brighter Beginnings Health and Development Checks (BBHDC) Preschool Team, which offers health and development checks for preschool age-children attending Early Childhood Education centres across the Northen Sydney region. This collaborative program between NSW Health and the NSW Department of Early Education, aims to identify health and development support needs, and facilitate access to early intervention before children start school. The SW may need to attend preschools to assist with parent engagement and health screening. This Senior SW role coordinates care and support for families, with young children, experiencing psychosocial stressors, which may be impacting their child’s health and development. Referrals flow primarily from BBHDC screening. The role provides consultation to other clinicians and applies high-level skills to engage with families and children to conduct complex needs assessments incorporating family systems and relationships and psychosocial needs. The Senior SW undertakes solution-focused casework, offers psychoeducation and parent-child attachment and interaction focused interventions and brief family relationships counselling. The role may facilitate child-development focused parent education groups for families from diverse backgrounds. The role contributes to person-centred and goal-oriented care planning and facilitates family care reviews/case conferences as needed, advocates, facilitates referrals and supports families to access services and ensures safe clinical handover. The SW also provides clinical supervision for junior social workers and education for students. The position also holds professional leadership responsibility for all social workers within the CYF service. This includes coordinating professional, practice development opportunities and reflective practice supervision to enhance capacity to work effectively with vulnerable families and young children using an evidenced-based, early intervention framework. The role works closely with the Manager CYF Services and as part of the CYF clinical leadership team, to design and deliver integrated, interdisciplinary care systems. CYF services partner with families to provide child-centred, culturally sensitive, trauma and evidence-informed, neurodiversity affirming and integrated health care - to optimise lifelong health, learning, wellbeing and social participation outcomes for children from diverse backgrounds.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Qualification of a Degree in Social Work from an accredited course providing eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) (overseas qualifications must supply the AASW Overseas Assessment number) and an eligible NSW Driver Licence and willingness to travel for work. A demonstrated understanding of the current AASW Practice Standards as they relate to the position and a commitment to updating professional skills and knowledge. Drivers Licence (P2 acceptable) and willingness to drive for work-related purposes.
  2. Discuss your social work experience, skills and clinical knowledge relevant to working with preschool-age children and families experiencing psychosocial stressors.
  3. Discuss the leadership experience, skills and abilities that you would bring to a senior social work role supporting social workers working across multiple teams.
  4. Describe your experience working in interdisciplinary service settings.
  5. Demonstrate excellent professional writing and communication skills, high-level computer literacy and ability to confidently use electronic health information systems, telehealth systems, and Microsoft 365 applications.
