What you'll be doing

  • Far West Local Health District (FWLHD) Mental Health Services are committed to building a professional Peer Workforce that supports for consumers living with mental illness and distress in their recovery journey.
  • The Mental Health Peer Workforce in FWLHD is comprised of employees who have the lived and living experience of mental ill health and recovery, as well as additional life and work skills they bring to the role. 
    The Peer Workforce is seen as vital in the support and guidance they positively offer to Consumers and the Mental Health Service. 
    The Senior Peer Worker position is a senior role within the FWLHD Peer Services team and wider Peer Workforce.
  • The Senior Peer Worker will assist with the Peer Supervision and Support of Peer Workers in carrying out their role, as delegated by the Recovery Centre Manager.
  • The Senior Peer Worker will contribute to and assist the Recovery Centre  Manager with tasks related to the overall planning, development and evaluation of FWLHD Peer Services, Peer Workforce and Mental Health Services. This position will work across the wider FWLHD area. The Senior Peer Worker will report to the Recovery Centre Manager.
  • The Senior Peer Worker - Peer Services will work across FWLHD to provide Peer Support and Advocacy to Consumers in both the Inpatient setting (which includes the Acute and Rehabilitation settings) and the Community Mental Health Services, as delegated.

How to Apply
To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the selection criteria in the application as thoroughly as possible:

  • Demonstrated experience in peer work at a senior level and/or a leadership role in similar position. Minimum of 3 years of experience as a peer worker. A degree in a relevant field is required for payment at a Graduate level.
  • Personal experience as a consumer of mental health services and ability to use your own lived and living experience to support others in their own mental health recovery journey. Demonstrated ability to promote recovery from the consumer perspective
  • Demonstrated experience in determining priorities, strategies, developing policy and leading peer support and consumer advocacy activities and programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively supervising, coaching and developing staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team to build relationships with experience providing support and guidance to peer workers.
  • Demonstrated effective negotiation, time management, written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively across community and inpatient settings. Flexibility in working hours would be advantageous.
  • Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer work or willing to complete within 12 months after starting.
  • Have a current and valid Australian Drivers Licence and be able to work across different locations in FWLHD.
