About the Role

Sydney Local Health District has a long and proud history of delivering care in the community including prevention, early intervention, assessment, treatment, health maintenance and continuing care services designed to improve and support the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities.

This position is within the Primary Health Network’s targets of ensuring that your people have access to specialist mental health services as early as possible. It is funded to enhance the provision of clinical and consultancy services which facilitate greater integration between EIP and headspace, and improve pathways to care for people who are at risk of psychosis (primary target group) and at risk of serious mental illness (severe depression or anxiety, major mood disorder, borderline personality disorder, disordered eating) who would not access usual mental health services and can be/are supported in primary care.

  1. To provide effective care during the critical early phase of illness. This involves proactive engagement and initiation of clinical therapies.
  2. To reduce the duration of untreated psychosis, limit the impact of a first episode of psychosis, foster hope that recovery is possible, and maximize the quality of life of consumers, carers, and their families.
  3. To work in partnership with other agencies to provide psychosocial interventions aiming for maximal symptomatic and functional recovery and prevention of relapse
This will include:
  1. Assessment at Headspace; consultation of more complex youth mental health presentations.
  2. Outreach with Headspace (e.g. home visits).
  3. Collaborative care co-ordination and targeted interventions for young people identified at Headspace (Camperdown) as being “at risk” of developing a psychotic disorder.
