About the role

As the Senior Communications Writer you will develop, implement and evaluate a strategy for a series of persuasive, interesting and informative, written communication pieces, to showcase the work undertaken by recipients of NSW Health Office for Health and Medical Research funding and support.
This role requires strong writing and editing skills and in-depth knowledge of the editorial process, a strong understanding of technical medical research content and excellent skills in translating complex language into interesting news stories and content that is consistent and tailored to specific audiences and channels.
You are an enthusiastic professional with a high-level attention to detail and an ability to be forward-thinking with a strategic mindset. You have proven experience in writing and editing a range of communication pieces with a speciality in health and medical research.
Ideally you have experience building meaningful relationships with stakeholders, both external and internal, across the medical research sector, or within the NSW health system. You will have experience in undertaking complex topic research and data analysis to develop written communication pieces for external channels, maintaining an astute awareness of current issues across the sector.
Crown Clerk 9/10, starting salary from $125,693 - $138,510 pro rata (plus Super and annual leave loading, with a 28-hour work week)

What you'll be doing
Project manage content creation of a series of news articles across the year including: brief up stories considering themes, angles, and story types, interview researchers and develop, write, edit and fact check consistent, high-quality content, facilitate approvals with researchers and their organisations, establish and maintain a consistent editorial voice, liaise with key teams within the Office for Health and Medical Research and the Ministry throughout the editorial process, maintain a pipeline of stories for publication. Advise on image selection to accompany stories and recommend break out boxes and social media posts.
About you
We are seeking motivated and committed individuals who can support the work of NSW Health with:
- demonstrated sound experience as a science or medical health writer in media, journalism or similar, or equivalent experience.
- extensive skills in engaging with stakeholders to write communication pieces and working with an established editorial process.
- record of achievement producing, reviewing and editing written communication materials for multiple purposes and platforms.
- good project management skills with the capacity to manage competing priorities, maintain attention to detail and meet deadlines.
- understanding of accessibility standards and be able to craft compelling content that meets readability standards and ensures inclusivity for diverse audiences.
- tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or demonstrated relevant professional experience.
