About the Opportunity 
This role provides expert nursing consultancy services to patients, carers, and healthcare professionals across the organisation and Local Health District, ensuring the best clinical management of peritoneal dialysis patients. By promoting evidence-based practice through research, leadership, and education, the position plays a key role in optimising patient outcomes and enhancing renal services at both organisational and district levels.

As a clinical leader and specialist, this role delivers targeted education to healthcare professionals, fostering continuous learning and skill development in peritoneal dialysis. It also oversees the maintenance and coordination of renal policies across the district, ensuring alignment with best practices.

In collaboration with the Director of Renal Medicine, staff specialists, medical teams, Nursing Professors, allied health professionals, and community care providers, this position actively supports and promotes research initiatives that drive improved patient care.

Regular engagement with the Director of Renal Services, Renal Nurse Manager, and key nursing leaders ensures staff education needs are identified and addressed through tailored training strategies for healthcare professionals, patients, and consumer groups.



What You'll be Doing
This position will provide a Nursing Consultancy Service to patients, carers and other health professionals across the organisation and Local Health District in regard to the clinical management of peritoneal dialysis patients facilitating sound evidence based clinical practice through research, leadership and ensuring best outcomes to patients and to the renal services at an organisational and Local Health District Level.

The role will act as a clinical leader and expert practitioner providing specialty related education for health professionals, fostering an environment of continual learning and updating of peritoneal dialysis knowledge and skills including maintenance and coordination of renal policies for the district.

This position will work in collaboration with the Director of Renal Medicine, Staff specialist, medical team and Professors of Nursing, allied health and community care providers to identify, conduct, facilitate and promote research projects to enhance best patient outcomes. Regular liaison will occur with the Director, Renal Service, the Renal nurse manager and relevant Nurse Unit Manager & Nurse Educator in each department to identify staff educational needs and develop strategies for the education of staff, consumer groups, patients and others.

To support the Service Managers in achieving service goals, including participating in strategic and operational planning and quality improvement activities for the Renal Services at an organisational and Local Health District Level.

  • The Renal Nurse Manager
  • The Director of Renal Service SWSLHD
  • Strategically linked to the Cardiovascular Stream through the Renal Service

  1. Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. Have at least 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience and in addition have approved post registration nursing/midwifery qualifications relevant to the field in which he/she is appointed, or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organisation.
  2. Demonstrated ability to apply expert knowledge to provide safe compassionate quality care that is culturally responsive.
  3. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and engage with patients/consumers, carers and the multidisciplinary health care team to identify and ensure responsiveness of care needs.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of and/or experience in initiating and implementing changes to improve clinical service delivery and outcomes through enhanced models of care, evidence based practice, practice development, and the Essentials of Care Program.
  5. Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
