Purpose of the Position
To provide a Psychiatry service as part of a multidisciplinary team to consumers with an Eating Disorder in Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD). The staff specialist will work as a senior member of the NSLHD Eating Disorder Service, in collaboration with other team members, to lead, develop and maintain an eating disorder outpatient service to consumers and their families of the highest possible quality and safety. This will include direct clinical care as part of the outpatient service, clinical data collection, clinical documentation, application of legislation pertinent to clinical care, clinical advice in complex cases and interagency collaboration. This care will be provided within the scope of practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC). 

The position will provide clinical liaison services within NSLHD to clinicians from acute and mental health inpatient units, community teams, primary health networks (including GPs) and NGOs on the best treatment for consumers with eating disorders. The position will contribute to capacity building and the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within the District.

This position is under the governance structure of the North Shore Ryde Mental Health Service (NSRMHS). 

Selection Criteria

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Psychiatrist and/or overseas trained substantial specialist pathways. Applicants expecting to be awarded their FRANZCP within 3 months may be considered.
  2. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in managing consumers with eating disorders and their families and carers, including the ability to advocate for the needs of consumers with eating disorders. Must hold strong knowledge of the complex physical health needs for consumers with eating disorders and ability to provide clinical guidance and intervention.
  4. The capacity for involvement in education, training, supervision and liaison across a variety of professional disciplines and settings.
  5. Understanding of and commitment to the NSW Service Plan for People with Eating Disorders 2021-2025 (NSW Health)
  6. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to lead and work within a multidisciplinary team environment. This includes experience in liaising with and working closely with GPs, consumers and carers with demonstrated understanding of the recovery and care coordination models of care.
  7. Demonstrated commitment and experience of providing input and support to complex care service model design, development and review with a range of clinical and non-clinical stakeholders.
  8. Current NSW driver's license and willingness to travel across multiple sites within NSLHD for work purposes
