Purpose of the Position
The Emergency Medicine Fellow is a recent Fellow of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (FACEM). The purpose of the position is for Junior Specialists to have opportunities to further develop skills required to independently supervise a busy Emergency Department as well as core clinical skills required in a busy metropolitan non-tertiary Emergency Department. There is also an emphasis on quality and system improvement training opportunities. The position is generally suitably only for recent FACEM graduates (FACEM received within 2 years of the advertised application closing date).
The Fellow is responsible for assessment and management of patients presenting to the Emergency Department; communication of assessment / management decisions to other staff involved in the patient's care, communication with the patient and / family regarding the patient's condition and management plans, maintenance of accurate and relevant patient documentation, co-ordination of diagnostic tests and consultations, arrangement of patient discharge process and liaison with GP's and other Community Care services to ensure the provision of optimal patient care to patients presenting to Hornsby Hospital.
Provide clinical management and treatment of patients under your care in a Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) facility or service. This care will be provided within the scope of practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC).
The position will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within the District.

Selection Criteria
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine. The Fellowship must have been obtained within two years of the advertised application closing date. Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 3 months may be considered. If successful, the applicant will not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.
