Genetic Counsellor – GoLD Service | Shape the Future of Genetic Research

Remuneration: $61.36 - $62.84 Per Hour + Superannuation

Where you'll be working:

Join the Genetics of Learning Disability (GoLD) service, a state-funded initiative dedicated to advancing research and providing clinical genetic services for families affected by inherited intellectual disability. Established in 2000, the GoLD service incorporates the NSW Fragile X service and plays a critical role in both clinical care and international research collaborations.



About the role:

As a Genetic Counsellor within the GoLD team, you will:

  • Provide specialist genetic counselling to individuals and families affected by inherited intellectual disability.
  • Support the Senior Genetic Counsellor in delivering high-quality clinical care and maintaining strong family relationships.
  • Participate in statewide clinical consultations, offering expertise in genetic conditions.
  • Engage in domestic and international research projects contributing to advancements in genetic counselling.
  • Ensure patient care is delivered ethically, confidentially, and in compliance with best-practice guidelines.



About you:

  • Full certification through the Board of Censors for Genetic Counselling (Human Genetics Society of Australasia).
  • Relevant postgraduate qualifications and/or experience, with eligibility for AHPRA registration (if required).
  • Experience in counselling families with intellectual delay, demonstrating a compassionate and informed approach.
  • Strong understanding of privacy, confidentiality, and ethical considerations in genetic counselling.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team while also exercising independent clinical judgement.



Support & Training:

  • Orientation will be provided by the Principal Genetic Counsellor.
  • Ongoing support from the Senior Genetic Counsellor and experienced associate genetic counsellors.
  • Access to monthly external group supervision, supported by the service.
