Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD). This position will be located in the Department of Paediatrics and Neonatology at Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals.

 

Successful candidates will provide high quality specialty services in Paediatrics (including Newborn Care services), including but not limited to admitting, consultative, diagnostic, procedural, outpatient and on-call specialty services as determined and required by Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals. The role also includes participation in teaching, quality improvement, administrative activities and research within the Department of Paediatrics and Neonatology (of which the Paediatric service is a part) and the wider Facility and LHD as required. Appointees may be required to participate in other on-call rosters at nominated facilities within Western Sydney Local Health District as determined by clinical operations.

 

The Facility sees over 20,000 Paediatric Presentations per year. The current Paediatric service has a 16-bed, Level 4 inpatient unit at Mount Druitt Hospital, a 12-bed, Level 4 inpatient unit at Blacktown. The Neonatal service has an 18 bed Level Newborn Care service at Blacktown Hospital. The service also operates community-based and ambulatory services, including General Paediatric and Sub-specialty Clinics, Multi-Disciplinary Vulnerable Child Clinics, Acute Review Clinics, Neonatal Clinics (including a Feeding Clinic), and Paediatric Allied Health Clinics, as well as a dedicated Nurse-led Children's Outreach Service (COS).

 

Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within three months, may be considered. If successful, the applicant may not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.

 

Essential Requirements for Appointment

1.     Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.

2.     Demonstrated high level clinical practice in General Paediatrics, Newborn Care, and ambulatory and outpatient paediatrics including neurodevelopmental and behavioural paediatrics.

 

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.

Selection Criteria

Please outline how you satisfy the selection criteria listed below. In addressing the selection criteria, include any relevant skills, knowledge, qualifications and experience:

 

1.     Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.

2.     Demonstrated high level clinical practice in General Paediatrics, Newborn Care, and ambulatory and outpatient paediatrics including neurodevelopmental and behavioural paediatrics.

3.     Demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills, in multidisciplinary clinical and non-clinical settings.

4.     Demonstrated experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice leading to systems improvement in public or private settings.

5.     Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision, including but not limited to junior medical officers and non-medical team members (nursing staff, allied health).

6.     Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.
