We have an exciting opportunity in the Health Prototyping Centre Team for a Design Specialist. The Health Prototyping Centre is an initiative between eHealth NSW, HealthShare NSW, Health Infrastructure NSW and NSW Health Pathology.

Reporting into
the Design Lead you will be responsible for assessing potential healthcare applications of new products, processes and facilities. This includes designing and conducting simulation-based evaluations in collaboration with technical and clinical specialists. The Design Specialist utilises the Google Ventures Design Sprint methodology (or similar) to work with teams to build and test prototypes in the space of a week. This role is an opportunity to work on a broad variety of time-boxed design challenges, from chatbots to pathology lab redesigns.

The role is based at the Health Prototyping Centre, Macquarie Park. The Health Prototyping Centre is a built-for purpose, dedicated facility of over 1000 square meters to support rapid prototyping and simulation-based testing. It includes a mix of productivity, ideation and clinical simulation spaces.

What you will do

As an integral member of the Health Prototyping Centre Team, you will:

  • Support multi-disciplinary teams through time-boxed Design Sprints to develop and test novel solutions to complex challenges facing health services, clinicians and patient and carers.
  • Facilitate problem definition and ideation workshops with stakeholders from across the NSW Health System.
  • Develop semi-functional prototypes using a mix of tools (e.g. FIGMA, Sketch, Microsoft PowerApps or similar) and materials (paper, cardboard, 3d prints, virtual/augmented reality) to enable user experience testing.
  • Pro-actively identify opportunities to solve challenges within the health space and quickly generate and test your hypothesis in a way that can provide insights to the Health Prototyping Centre partners
  • Prepare artefacts based on outcomes from Design Sprints and Product Evaluation exercises for a range of stakeholders and audiences to support long-term solution development and implementation.

About you

We are seeking motivated and committed individuals with:

  • Experience in Human Centred Design, Human Factors, Product Design, Rapid Prototyping, Innovation Labs or a related field, as well as relevant qualifications, including familiarity with Google Ventures Design Sprint methodology (or similar).
  • Experience with simulation-based evaluation methods and tools, including; the development of prototypes of varying levels of fidelity using a range of tools and material, and the development of insights reports clearly communicating analysis of Sprint or design process findings.
  • Demonstrable facilitation, engagement, collaboration, problem solving and negotiation skills, with ability to build and maintain relationships with project stakeholders.
