What you'll be doing

  • The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) Grade 2 for Palliative Care Unit at Auburn Hospital will work collaboratively with staff, specialist, and nurses across Western Sydney Local Health District. The CNC will be providing a consultancy service for patients with a life threatening illness.
  • The CNC for Palliative Care at Auburn Hospital will provide leadership in the development and enhancement of palliative care services for patients with a life limiting illness.
  • The CNC for Palliative Care at Auburn Hospital   is a clinical expert in palliative care and resource to staff, the CNC will have expertise of health assessments, care pathways, advance care planning and on-going symptom management.
  • The CNC  for Palliative Care at Auburn Hospital promotes a service which fosters clinical excellence, research & professional leadership.
  • The Palliative Care CNC at Auburn Hospital will actively participate in the multidisciplinary teams and will be involved in care planning, coordinating patients and link to Community key providers.

Essential Requirements

  • Registration: Current and valid registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  • Qualification: Postgraduate Palliative Care qualifications relevant to the field.

Selection Criteria

  1. At least five (5) years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least 3 years full time equivalent in Palliative Care. Holding or working towards relevant postgraduate tertiary qualifications in a specialty area, education and/or research.
  2. Demonstrated advanced communication including verbal, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage with clients/consumers, carers and the multidisciplinary health team in a manner than ensures responsiveness of care needs and resolves conflicts when they arise. and advanced information technology skills to provide consultancy services and deliver innovative nursing practice.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively both independently and as part of the multidisciplinary health care team.
  4. Demonstrated ability to lead quality improvement, practice development and evidence-based practice critical review
  5. Demonstrated personal attributes including resilience, accountability, integrity and ability to manage self.
  6. Demonstrated ability to identify education needs and deliver education for patients/clients and health care professionals
  7. Demonstrated ability to function as a senior leader within a complex health organisation.
  8. Demonstrated ability to use critical thinking and problem solving skills as it relates to the delivery of advanced evidence based Palliative Care Nursing.
