About the Opportunity
We are seeking a passionate Carer Peer Support Worker (HEO Grad/Non Grad) to join our Mental Health Team. This unique role uses the lived experience of being a carer for a loved one with a mental illness (sibling, parent, partner or child) to provide meaningful connection, support, and advocacy for other carers navigating the mental health system.
As a Carer Peer Support Worker, you will offer vital information and guidance, advocate for carers with treating teams, and collaborate with clinicians, social workers, Consumer Peer Workers, MH executive and community managed partners. You will also facilitate education sessions to enhance staff practices and use your lived experience to shape strategies, procedures, and policies that positively impact carers and the mental health system.

What You'll be Doing
The position involves working collaboratively with Mental Health teams to support the implementation and delivery of Mental Health services .The Carer Peer support Worker uses their lived experience of caring, as well as peer worker expertise to address service gaps, provide opportunity for education and training of clinical staff and provide representative input into activities and projects to advocate for, and promote change.
The Carer Peer support role provides recovery orientated, evidence based peer support interventions directed towards the family and/or carers of mental health consumers. This position also supports clinical staff in the provision of recovery orientated and consumer driven clinical practice by providing consultation in relation to the experience of caring for an individual living with a mental health disorder.
The carer, peer support worker is also responsible for undertaking designated administrative tasks necessary to support service delivery.

- Recognized Degree or other qualification deemed appropriate by the employer. Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer work or willingness to work towards completing.
- Personal experience of caring for someone with a mental illness as well as a willingness to share this experience as part of your role
- Demonstrated knowledge of issues and concerns relating to a caring role
- Experience in developing and running educational groups
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Evidence of knowledge and commitment to the application of quality improvement and evidence based practice
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer literacy in a range of programs
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional education
- Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
