About the Opportunity
In this role, you will be working within a strength based, child, family and culturally centred trauma informed approach, this role will provide therapeutic and casework services to children who have been sexually assaulted, and their non-offending family members. As part of a multidisciplinary health care team, this role will provide quality services to patients / clients of SLHD to meet their health and wellbeing needs.
You will be partner with the local SLHD sexual assault services (SAS) to develop a deeper level of awareness and understanding of how to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal people who may engage with these specific services.The role will have a professional development plan in place that will provide the opportunity for work-based development which allows for progression through the Award levels in accordance with the position holder’s skill acquisition.

Ideal Candidate
- Possess one of the following:
- Bachelor of Social Work which provides eligibility for membership to Australian Association of Social Workers
- Degree in Psychology with full registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia
- Bachelor degree in Counselling or Welfare from a recognised and accepted education provider, as deemed appropriate by the employer
- Completed Education Centre Against Violence (ECAV) qualification pathway - Graduate Certificate in Human and Community Services (Interpersonal Trauma).
- Demonstrated high level understanding of the dynamics and effects of sexual assault and demonstrated experience in best practice model for working with children and young people who have experienced sexual abuse/trauma.
- Demonstrated experience in, or commitment to, working with Aboriginal individuals who have experienced sexual assault and/or other forms of interpersonal violence and their families.
- Current NSW Driver's Licence (P1 and P2 Licence acceptable) and willingness to travel in the course of employment is preferrable.
This is an Identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Position. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such. Exemption is claimed under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
