About the role 

We are seeking experienced and motivated professionals to lead a compliance team conducting regulatory compliance and enforcement activities within the Centre for Regulation and Enforcement.  

This role is responsible for coordinating and overseeing operational compliance programs, inspections, investigations and enforcement activities under key legislation including the Public Health (Tobacco) Act 2008, Smoke-free Environment Act 2000 and Poisons and Therapeutic Goods Act 1966. 

 

You will lead a team delivering proactive compliance activities across NSW, contribute to strategic regulatory initiatives and work collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders to support positive public health outcomes. 

The role operates in a fast-paced and high-profile regulatory environment and requires strong leadership, operational coordination and stakeholder engagement skills. 

 

What you'll be doing  

  • Lead, supervise and support a team delivering regulatory compliance and enforcement activities.

  • Coordinate and oversee inspections, investigations and operational compliance activities across NSW.

  • Monitor operational performance and contribute to strategic, risk-based compliance approaches.

  • Prepare high-quality reports, briefs, ministerial correspondence and operational advice.

  • Support training and capability development for inspectors and authorised officers.

  • Work collaboratively with Local Health Districts, co-regulators and key stakeholders.

  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of operational processes and compliance programs.

  • Monitor emerging trends, risks and issues relating to tobacco and e-cigarette regulation.

  • Attend court proceedings and assist with enforcement and prosecution activities where required.

  • Support statewide operational deployments and compliance initiatives, including regional travel where required.

 

About you  
We are seeking motivated and capable individuals who can support the work of NSW Health with: 

  • Demonstrated experience in regulatory compliance, investigations or enforcement environments.

  • Strong leadership and team management capability.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes in a high-volume environment.

  • Sound judgement and ability to manage complex or sensitive matters.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Commitment to continuous improvement and public sector values. 

 

Essential Requirements 

  • Certificate IV in Government Investigations or equivalent.

  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying legislation and regulatory frameworks.

  • Current valid NSW Driver Licence.

  • Capacity and willingness to travel across NSW, including overnight stays where required
