About Our Role

Our Medical Oncology Clinical (Provisional) Fellow position is accredited as a non-core term by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) for Medical Oncology training programs.

This position is ideal for candidates in their last year of Advanced Training. Candidates that have completed all three years of their training but are willing to continue at the Advanced Trainee level of appointment will also be considered suitable. 

Prince of Wales Hospital serves as a major referral centre within SESLHD. The Clinical Fellow is based exclusively at Prince of Wales Hospital and primarily the Nelune Comprehensive Cancer Centre, a centre of excellence and world-class facilities and services that forms part of the Randwick Health and Innovation Precinct. These include:

A comprehensive tumour stream-based cancer service facility

  • A cardio-oncology clinic

  • Cancer survivorship clinics

  • The Precision Oncology clinic, the first of its kind in the country

  • A substantial Clinical Trial and Research Unit, overseeing over 20 phase 1-3 clinical trials ongoing at any given time

  • A new oncology ward in the Acute Services Building

The Clinical Fellow will also have exposure to medical oncology services at the co-located Royal Hospital for Women, and operate in a multidisciplinary setting, collaborating with full-time clinicians and researchers.

 

Your Primary Location

Prince of Wales Hospital and Community Health Services is a major teaching hospital and tertiary referral centre based on the Randwick Hospitals Campus. We provide excellent healthcare to SESLHD and specialist health and medical services to NSW. We connect with various universities including the University of New South Wales. Our premier medical facilities enable leading learning opportunities for our staff, with the Randwick Campus Redevelopment providing a world-class integrated environment for clinical care, research and education.

We have 450 inpatient beds and almost 3,000 staff. Each year we care for more than 64,000 patients in our Emergency Department and around 50,000 patients are admitted to our Hospital. We also have a busy outpatient service and rural outreach service and provide more than 900,000 occasions of non-admitted patient care each year.

Randwick is a metropolitan hub in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. We have a vibrant, multicultural community, with diverse dining options and regular entertainment hosted by our local council. For those fond of coastal living, we are a walk away from Coogee Beach. A short drive takes you to the famous Bondi Beach and Centennial Parklands.   1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. At least 6 years full time hospital experience. Experience in precision medicine oncology genetics.
  3. Commitment to pursue a career in Medical Oncology and the capacity tocomplete the training program.
  4. Successful completion of the Royal Australian College of Physicians written and clinical examinations. Candidates intending to complete their third year of training or have completed all three years but are willing to continue at the Advanced Trainee level of appointment are preferred.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise at the level of an advanced trainee.
  6. Experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  8. Demonstrated organizational skills, good time management skills and capacity for self-directed learning.
