Junior Medical Officer


 

Nepean Hospital is a major referral and teaching hospital of the University of Sydney. Nepean Hospital is recognised as comprising one of the largest and busiest maternity care facilities in Western Sydney. The tertiary level public hospital provides care for approximately 4000 births per year, including high risk antenatal care, and services the state’s highest population of high-risk groups such as Aboriginal and Pacific Islander women.

The O&G Provisional Fellow position is well suited for those who wish to complete CMFM training, DDU training or those who wishes to train in Obstetrics and Gynaecology Ultrasound or management of high risk Obstetric patients.

What you'll be doing

  • Taking a leadership role in the assessment and management of Obstetric and Gynaecological patients.
  • Management of JMOs, ITP Trainees and nona-ccredited Trainees, including:
    • Rostering
    • Payroll support
    • Education
    • Performance management
  • Communicating between JMO and Consultant.
  • Clinical Governance including initiating and participating in Root Cause Analysis.
  • Participating in a 24/7 roster and may be rostered to day, evening or night shifts across a seven day roster.


 

Where you'll be working

  • The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Nepean Hospital has established a high quality and comprehensive service in Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM), supported by a level 6 Neonatal Unit, Fetal Cardiology, Regional Maternal Fetal Medicine clinic, and Perinatal Ultrasound Service
  • NBMLHD encompasses Nepean Hospital, Blue Mountains District Hospital and Hawkesbury Hospital.
  • Obstetric experience is predominantly at Nepean Hospital with Gynaecological surgery offered at all sites.


 

Essential requirements

  • MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
  • Completion of 4 years of the Royal Australian New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) Integrated Training Programme (ITP) and successful completion of the RANZCOG Fellowship exam by commencement of the contract or equivalent.
  • Current registration as a trainee with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (or eligible for) and intent to obtain Fellowship of the College.
  • Recent relevant clinical experience required to undertake the key accountabilities for this role.
  • Competency in:
    o Obstetric and Gynaecological history taking and examination.
    o Pelvic examination including speculum examination and PAP smears.
    o Obstetric antenatal care.
    o Management of labouring women including instrumental delivery and caesarean section.
    o Gynaecological surgeries and colposcopy.
    o Familiarity with Obstetric and Gynaecological imaging.
  • This position is subject to an appropriate supervision level which can be supported by the health agency. If the incumbent’s registration conditions include supervision requirements, the level of supervision must be able to be supported by the health agency for this role.
  • Valid Working with Children Check, cleared National Police Check.
  • To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy, this includes any amendments made from time to time.

  1. Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
  2. Advanced ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services
  3. Advanced ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
  4. Advanced verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences.
  5. Advanced ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment.
  6. Commitment to participating in training and development opportunities to further develop skills and knowledge in the area of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
  7. Previous experience in and willingness to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training.
