This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the leadership team within the Nutrition and Dietetic Department at Sydney Children's Hospital. Preference is for full time applicants; however, job share may be considered 1x position will work within Gastroenterology and 1x position will work within General Nutrition and Dietetics (clinical area will be assigned based on the needs of the department and skills of the applicant)
What you'll be doing
The purpose of the level 4 paediatric dietitian Team Leader is to plan, coordinate, and deliver comprehensive nutritional service to paediatric inpatients and outpatients attending the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network (SCHN).
This position provides leadership and management support to clinical dietitians within the Sydney Children’s Hospital (SCH) Nutrition and Dietetics Department as part of the leadership & management team, to ensure the provision of a high standard of clinical nutrition and dietetics service at SCH. This is achieved through the coordination of existing clinical services; encouraging professional development of staff; fostering ongoing service development through staff participation in evidence-based practice, quality activities and research activities; and representing the needs of the team within the leadership group.
The level 4 dietitian provides consultation in their specialty to other health professionals across the area, geographic region or clinical network both within and beyond the SCHN.
The Nutrition and Dietetic Department aims to work in partnership to advocate for optimised nutrition for children through evidence based clinical care, education, research and leadership. We specialise in addressing the unique nutritional needs of children from neonates to adolescents, across a range of clinical domains. Our primary aim is to optimise the growth and nutritional status of all children with chronic and complex medical conditions.
The clinical load of this level 4 Dietitian Team Leader will be determined based on the needs and priorities of the department. The level 4 Dietitian, will be expected to work across a range of clinical areas, in both the inpatient and outpatient setting, as directed by the Manager of the SCH Nutrition and Dietetic Department.

- Extensive post graduate clinical experience in a range of clinical areas
- Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels
- Ability to provide in-depth advice and education to enhance service delivery and to guide and support others in providing service excellence, with the capacity to provide clinical supervision to other staff
- Ability to apply advanced reasoning skills and independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a novel, complex or critical nature
- Ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing clinical and professional learning
- Demonstrated leadership skills with proven ability to monitor individual performance, problem-solve, and use independent professional judgment to lead and support daily coordination and provision of clinical nutrition and dietetics services
