About the Opportunity

The Nursing Unit Manager (NUM) plays a pivotal role in the Outpatients Department (OPD), ensuring the delivery of efficient, high-quality, and patient-centered care within a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment. Their responsibilities encompass overseeing daily operations, managing staff, upholding care standards, and driving continuous improvements in patient outcomes. 

Key duties include ensuring the department functions smoothly by coordinating schedules, optimizing patient flow, and collaborating with other departments to address operational challenges. By streamlining appointments and consultations, the NUM minimizes patient wait times and enhances service efficiency, contributing to a positive patient experience.


What you'll be doing

The Nursing Unit Manager (NUM) is in-charge of all aspects of the unit environment and takes overall responsibility for the standard of patient care in the unit. The NUM is pivotal to the coordination of patient care, unit management and leadership to ensure the delivery of high quality patient care and efficient use of resources.


Where you'll be working

Liverpool Hospital, founded in 1813, is the major health service for south-western Sydney, providing services to the local government area of Liverpool City Council as well as district services to residents and visitors in the area. It also provides a range of state-wide services in areas such as critical care and trauma, neonatal intensive care and brain injury rehabilitation. 


The Hospital provides a health service of international standing, with 23 operating theatres, capacity for 877 beds, diagnostic and imaging services, emergency and trauma care, maternity, paediatric, cancer care, mental health, ambulatory care, allied health and medical and surgical services from birth to aged care.

Liverpool Hospital is currently undergoing a major redevelopment. The $790 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct (LHAP) project will provide enhanced facilities and an increased capacity to meet future significant population growth for South Western Sydney. 

Liverpool Hospital is a principal referral and teaching Hospital of the UNSW Sydney and the Western Sydney University and also welcome students from over 20 universities and colleges. 

Located in the heart of Liverpool City, the hospital is close to public transport, shopping centres and eateries.

  1. Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent work experience or a combination of study and experience deemed appropriate by SWSLHD.
  2. Demonstrated senior nursing experience with experience in leading staff and managing services in a relevant setting.
  3. Proven ability to ensure the human, physical and financial resources of the unit are managed to provide safe, compassionate, quality care that is culturally responsive.
  4. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and engage with patients/consumers, carers and the multidisciplinary health care team to identify and ensure responsiveness of care needs.
  5. Demonstrated capacity to interact with others in a personable and professional manner and manage conflicts and performance issues when they arise.
  6. Demonstrated evidence of the use of critical thinking as it relates to the management of the unit and the delivery of evidenced based nursing care.
  7. Demonstrated understanding and participation in risk management, work health and safety and quality improvement in the workplace.
