Sydney Local Health District is seeking an experienced Nurse Educator to lead Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) clinical education across the district. This role provides high‑level leadership in coordinating training, supporting statewide initiatives, and strengthening workforce capability in AOD care.

  

About the Role

The purpose of this position is to deliver high quality education and training initiatives to the staff of SLHD to ensure that they have the skills required to deliver or support the delivery of high-quality patient and family centered care. The primary focus of this position will be the development and delivery of education in the Clinical Practice and Safety portfolio. This position supports the delivery of the Sydney Education Strategic Plan. 

  

The Educator will deliver evidence‑based education to both specialist Drug Health Services and non‑AOD clinical teams, supporting consistent, high‑quality care across SLHD. Key responsibilities include: 

  • Implementing NSW Health AOD Clinical Care Standards and workforce development packages. 
  • Delivering education across specialist services including Youth DHS and SUPPS. 
  • Designing and evaluating district‑wide programs such as the AOD Masterclass and Virtual Education Series. 
  • Building capability in managing comorbid AOD, mental health, and physical health conditions.

Ideal Candidate

  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife. 
  • Commitment to professional development of self and others including reflective practice and the ability to identify areas for growth. 
  • Advanced clinical experience in AOD nursing. 
  • Capability in clinical education design, delivery, and evaluation. 
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills. 
  • Commitment to person‑centred, trauma‑informed, evidence‑based practice.
