About the program:
The Allied Health Reliever Program within Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) is a well-established and unique service, operating since 2007 to support continuity of care across rural and regional communities.

Originally focused on rural and sole clinician sites, the program expanded in 2023 to provide coverage across the entire district, including Newcastle and Lower Hunter.

The service delivers flexible allied health support across:

  • Inpatient, outpatient and community settings
  • Adult and paediatric populations
  • Multiple professions including Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Social Work, and Speech Pathology


The program is centrally supported by the Allied Health Directorate and plays a critical role in maintaining service delivery during staff leave periods and vacancies.

The Dietitian will provide cover to teams across the facilities for blocks based on leave requests.

About you:

  • Adaptability and flexibility – ability to work across varied clinical environments
  • Strong clinical dietetic skills across adult and/or paediatric practice
  • Effective communication skills – engaging with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Organisational skills – managing workload in new settings
  • Independence and confidence as a clinician
  • Must hold a bachelor or post graduate degree in nutrition and dietetics that provides eligibility for full membership of the Dietitians Association of Australia, or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer. Please upload a copy of your qualification/s with your CV.

There is an expectation of initial orientation and informal training at each placement, with ongoing learning embedded in the role.
