About the role

The Associate Director, Finance & Performance is primarily responsible for oversight of financial and management accounting services for one or more NSW Health Pillars or agencies. The Associate Director is an integral part of the Pillar Senior Finance Leadership group providing financial advice, insights and leadership to Chief Executive, Board, Executive and staff. The role prepares and presents monthly performance reports for Pillars and agencies across NSW Health. The position is a change leader who will identify opportunities for process improvement and implementation of best practice financial strategies with a strong customer service focus. The position will develop, implement and monitor financial governance frameworks, processes, controls and risk management strategies to ensure compliance with all Australian Accounting Standards and NSW Health policies.

Health Manager level 5, starting salary from $166,678 – 186,448 plus Super, with a 40-hour work week.

What you’ll be doing

  • Provide a high quality, customer orientated, effective and efficient financial services delivery function.
  • Partner with Board, Chief Executive, Audit and Risk Committee and senior leadership to lead the financial planning, budgeting, analysis, reporting and advisory services on key Pillar agency programs.
  • Lead, foster and sustain strategic stakeholder relationships and strong partnerships across teams an directorates within Pillars, Ministry of Health, Health Entities and relevant external agencies through effective communication, negotiation, and issues management to ensure Pillar and NSW Health strategic objectives are met.
  • Design, implement and monitor financial and governance frameworks, processes and controls to align across multiple Health Agencies (Pillars) to meet statutory, policy and legislative responsibilities.
  • Lead the annual Pillar budgeting process in alignment with Pillar strategic objectives and NSW Health budget guidelines and timeframes to leverage optimal resource allocation.


About you
We are seeking motivated and committed individuals who can support the work of NSW Health with: 

  • Tertiary qualification in accountancy or a related disciple
  • Experience in financial management and statutory reporting
  • Demonstrated experience with presenting financial strategy driven information to Senior Executives for informed decision making
  • Membership of a recognised professional accounting organisation such as the CPA or similar
