About the role

As Project Engagement Manager, you will lead project planning, execution, and risk management activities during the establishment phase of a new Internal Locum Agency within NSW Health. Working closely with the Program Director, you will ensure delivery is aligned with strategic objectives, support the development of robust governance structures, and contribute to the design and implementation of workforce attraction and retention initiatives.

The role involves extensive engagement with internal and external stakeholders across NSW Health, requiring strong relationship building skills and the ability to navigate complex environments. You will play a critical role in translating strategy into action and ensuring effective collaboration across the system.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead end‑to‑end project planning, including development of detailed timelines, risk and issue management strategies, and regular reporting on milestones, deliverables, and benefits realisation.
  • Support the Program Director in establishing and embedding the Agency’s governance framework, decision‑making structures, and fit‑for‑purpose business processes.
  • Build and manage effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including Ministry of Health divisions, eHealth, Local Health Districts, Specialty Health Networks, and clinical leaders.
  • Produce high‑quality written materials such as briefing papers, reports, presentations, and responses to ministerial and executive requests, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and timeliness.
  • Provide people management and day‑to‑day leadership of project support staff, fostering a collaborative, high‑performing team environment.     


About you

  • We are seeking a motivated and committed professional who can support the work of NSW Health and contribute to system‑wide reform. You will bring:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the health workforce environment, with particular expertise in the medical and medical locum workforce.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or substantial experience leading complex, high‑level strategic and cross‑organisational initiatives within the Australian public health sector.
  • Demonstrated extensive project management experience, including the ability to plan, coordinate, and facilitate effective stakeholder engagement with a broad and diverse range of internal and external stakeholders to inform decision‑making.
  • Proven people management capability, with experience leading and supporting staff to deliver against strategic and operational objectives.
  • Highly developed problem‑solving, analytical, and evaluative skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and provide practical, evidence‑based solutions.
