About the Role

As the Taxation Accountant and Salary Packaging Manager, you will play a vital role in ensuring Hunter New England Health meets all taxation and salary packaging compliance requirements.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage and implement the framework for GST, FBT, and other taxation compliance across the district.

  •  Prepare and lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS), FBT returns, and reportable FBT calculations accurately and on time.

  •  Provide expert taxation and salary packaging advice to managers, staff, and clinicians.

  • Manage relationships with external salary packaging administrators, novated lease providers, and HealthShare Payroll.

  •  Support compliance for Senior Medical Practitioner Rights of Private Practice activities in line with Ministry of Health policies.

  •  Educate and guide staff on taxation policies, procedures, and best practices.

  •  Work collaboratively with the Financial Accounting and Reporting team to maintain best practice standards for accuracy and timeliness in reporting.


This is a key position for an experienced and detail-oriented finance professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and is motivated to deliver excellence in financial governance across one of NSW’s largest health districts.

 

About you

You’re an experienced accounting professional with strong technical knowledge in GST, FBT, and salary packaging. You pride yourself on your ability to interpret legislation, provide clear advice, and build productive working relationships with both internal teams and external partners.

You will bring:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and membership with a recognised professional accounting body.
  • Demonstrated expertise in GST and FBT legislation and its practical application.
  • Proven understanding of Salary Packaging within NSW Health or a large public-sector context, including public hospital exemption status.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills, with the ability to meet competing deadlines.
  • High-level interpersonal and communication skills to liaise effectively across all levels of the organisation.
  • Proficiency in financial systems such as Oracle and Microsoft Office products.
