About the role
Hunter New England Local Health District is seeking a Staff Specialist Paediatric Cardiologist to join the Cardiology Unit at John Hunter Children’s Hospital.
This role provides contemporary, comprehensive and patient-centred specialist paediatric cardiology services across inpatient and outpatient settings. The successful applicant will deliver high-quality clinical care to paediatric patients presenting with suspected or confirmed cardiac conditions and contribute to teaching, research and service development within a tertiary paediatric environment.
The position reports professionally to the Director of Cardiology, John Hunter Hospital and works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary network across the district.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist clinical assessment, management and treatment of paediatric patients with cardiac disease including congenital heart disease, valvular heart disease, arrhythmias, pericardial disease, pulmonary hypertension and basic adult congenital heart disease.
- Organise, interpret and report non-invasive cardiac investigations including echocardiography and exercise stress testing.
- Participate in after-hours and on-call cardiology rosters in accordance with departmental requirements.
- Contribute to supervision, teaching and mentoring of junior medical staff, trainees and students. Contribute to and/or lead research activities and support the translation of evidence into clinical practice.
Essential requirements:
- A primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in Paediatric Cardiology, and/or eligibility via an approved overseas trained specialist pathway.
- Demonstrated expertise in non-invasive paediatric cardiology.
- Fetal cardiac experience is desirable but not essential.
