Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital is seeking a passionate Senior Resident Medical Officer in General Medicine to join our team in 2027!

HNELHD facilitates a WBA program and was the first LHD to deliver the WBA and now has more than 15 years’ experience. The HNELHD WBA runs over 6 months is one of the largest in Australia and is based in Newcastle with a regional hub in Tamworth.
 

 

Where you'll be working

Tamworth Hospital has 288 beds and is the major Rural Referral Hospital providing services to the North West of NSW.

We are the largest hospital outside the Sydney – Newcastle – Wollongong regions servicing a local community of 60,000 and a referral community of 175,000.

Tamworth Hospital is a teaching hospital for the University of Newcastle and Joint Medical Program, University of New England and is equipped with an onsite post graduate education complex with clinical skills labs and access to the nearby Education Centre, University of Newcastle

The ED is delineated to Level 5 and offers great experience in leading edge critical care medicine.

Tamworth is a trauma centre for the NSW North West of NSW with locally staffed helicopter retrieval service.

Tamworth Hospital encourages collaboration and collegiate relationships across multi-disciplinary teams ensuring the best service delivery.

About the role

You will have the opportunity to undertake terms (rotations) in some of the following areas: Cardiology, Gastroenterology, General Medicine, Neurology, Medical Oncology, Nephrology and Endocrinology, The Senior Resident Medical Officer in General Medicine clinical year consists of 4 terms and includes participation in night General Medicine cover.

We are committed to vocational training and career support; term allocations are based on submitted preferences and future aspirations.

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. Completion of at least two postgraduate years working as a medical officer with demonstrated competence and commitment to the Basic Physician Training (BPT) program and related General Medicine experience.
  3. Demonstrated commitment to rural and regional health with an understanding of the health requirements of these communities.
  4. A professional attitude and flexibility in work role with a preparedness and ability to participate in after-hours overtime and on-call rosters and the required rotations between services to deliver patient care.
  5. Demonstrated good organisational, time management skills and commitment to Continued Professional Development, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management Demonstrated ability to work within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills (at the required level of competency) and judgment and expertise.
  6. Demonstrates teamwork, time management and problem solving skills as part of a multidisciplinary team.
