About the role

Join the Cardiology team at John Hunter Hospital and John Hunter Children’s Hospital as a Senior Cardiac Sonographer, where you'll lead a small team delivering a high-quality paediatric echocardiography service.

Working closely with paediatric cardiologists, you will perform detailed echocardiographic examinations for inpatients and outpatients while providing clinical leadership and supporting the ongoing development of the service. You'll supervise trainee paediatric sonographers, contribute to education and training programs, and collaborate with colleagues to coordinate workloads across the wider cardiac ultrasound service, including the weekend on-call roster.

You'll receive a comprehensive orientation and ongoing support from senior staff and specialist clinicians, with regular education opportunities to help you maintain and further develop your clinical expertise.

Where you'll be working

Based within the Cardiology Unit at John Hunter Hospital and John Hunter Children's Hospital, you'll be part of a service providing cardiac monitoring and diagnostic testing across the hospital campus and outreach clinics throughout Hunter New England Local Health District.

The Cardiac Physiology team consists of experienced clinicians across a range of grades and specialties, creating a collaborative environment with opportunities to expand your skills across both adult and paediatric cardiac diagnostics. Staff work a fixed roster and contribute to an after-hours on-call service for urgent procedures.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, or an equivalent degree which includes human anatomy and physiology
  • Completion of a post-graduate diploma in Cardiac Ultrasound or an equivalent qualification.
  • Registration with the Australian Sonography Accreditation Registry (ASAR) as an Accredited Medical Sonographer (Cardiac)
