About the Unit
The Anaesthetic Department at John Hunter Hospital is a dynamic and essential part of our Perioperative Services, delivering high-quality, evidence-based care across a wide range of surgical specialties. The unit is known for its strong focus on efficiency, patient safety, and best-practice standards in acute care.

As a Registered Nurse (Anaesthetics), you will play a vital role in providing specialised anaesthetic nursing care, closely monitoring patients, preparation of the environment and equipment and establishing rapport with patients.
You won’t be alone in this role! You will be supported by anaesthetists, surgeons, allied health professionals, and fellow nurses as part of a multidisciplinary perioperative team, ensuring seamless communication and optimal patient outcomes. Establishing rapport with patients, answering questions, and communicating relevant information are integral parts of this rewarding role. In this role you will have access to experienced mentors, senior mentors, Clinical Nurse Educators and Clinical Nurse Specialists to provide support in the unit and in your professional development.

What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking compassionate and motivated nurses who have:
- Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
- The ability to remain calm and effective under pressure
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- A genuine commitment to patient-centred care and continuous learning
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA
- Post-graduate clinical experience in an operating theatre or procedural unit in an acute hospital setting
- Knowledge of ACORN, GENCA, and ANZCA standards

Current registration as a Registered Nurse with Authority to Practice with AHPRA.
