About the Role:

We’re seeking two passionate Health Promotion Officers to join our Health Promotion team working with schools and childcare services across Hunter New England.

These Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified roles focus on promoting healthy eating and physical activity practices that create lasting change for children and their communities.

One position is permanent (Schools Team), and one is temporary (Childcare Team) with potential for extension. You'll work closely with local education providers, families and services to deliver meaningful, culturally safe health initiatives.

This is a rewarding, community-connected role where you’ll be part of a diverse and supportive team spread across Newcastle, Tamworth and Taree.

 

In this role, you'll:

  • Deliver evidence-based health promotion programs to schools and early childhood services
  • Build strong relationships with local Aboriginal communities and education providers
  • Provide advice on culturally appropriate practices and engagement methods
  • Support priority services in low socioeconomic, rural, and remote areas
  • Travel across sites to deliver preventive health services and support community wellbeing

     

About You:

You’re a strong communicator with a passion for health, education and culture.

You’re able to engage with diverse communities, especially Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, educators and families, and you bring a personal commitment to creating healthier futures through education and empowerment.
 

You must have:

  • Confirmation of Aboriginaility, as this is an identified position under Section 14 of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, delivering and monitoring health promotion programs
  • Connection to community and understanding of cultural safety in Aboriginal health work
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience working in education, childcare or community health settings
