About the role:

As the primary care clinician in our busy Emergency Department (ED), you'll bring advanced musculoskeletal knowledge and clinical skills to a fast-paced environment. You'll work across fast-tracked patients and those awaiting admission, as well as non-admitted patients. Leave relief through our casual pool is available for this position.

Your role will also involve:

  • Ensuring timely and effective physiotherapy interventions
  • Collaborating with nurse practitioners, nursing staff, allied health assistants, and medical staff at varying levels
  • Representing Allied Health in ED team meetings, contributing valuable insights
  • Providing occasional support to wards or outpatient services, if needed

Maitland Hospital is a modern healthcare facility providing a wide range of medical services to the Hunter Valley region. The new Maitland Hospital, which opened in 2022, features state-of-the-art equipment, expanded emergency and maternity services, and improved inpatient care.

We pride ourselves on fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment, with regular team meetings and access to the broader physio network for ED within the district. Building strong rapport is key to our success, and we encourage a culture of open communication, knowledge-sharing, and professional growth.

As part of the larger physiotherapy team, you'll work alongside ICU Level 4 physiotherapists, senior ward staff, and early-career physiotherapists (1st & 2nd years).

About You:

We’re seeking a motivated and adaptable physiotherapist who thrives in a complex and fast-moving environment. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong clinical expertise in musculoskeletal physiotherapy
  • The ability to work independently while maintaining effective communication with senior physiotherapy leadership (Level 6)
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development, particularly in the ED setting
  • Confidence in discussing emerging issues with ED leadership teams
  • Engagement in physiotherapy networks for ED within Hunter New England


Level 3 candidates may be considered if they are developing towards a level 4.

Requirements:

  • Physiotherapist with current Authority to Practice with AHPRA

  • To be eligible for permanent employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or a permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport.
