About the Role:
The Patient Experience Officer (PEO) plays a vital role in enhancing the experience of patients, carers, and visitors within Manning Base Hospital’s Emergency Department. Working closely with the Nurse Unit Manager and under the direction of the Registered Nurse in charge, you’ll provide compassionate, professional support that helps people feel heard, informed, and cared for during what can be a challenging time.
As a PEO, you’ll serve as a key communication link between patients and staff, helping to ensure the delivery of respectful, patient-centred care. Your calm presence, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills will help create a positive environment that aligns with the hospital’s commitment to exceptional service and community care.
About Us:
Located on the Mid North Coast, Manning Base Hospital is a Level 4 Rural Referral Hospital caring for approximately 38,000 emergency patients each year. Our Emergency Department is a dynamic, high-energy environment serving a growing and diverse community.
Our team prides itself on its resilience, compassion, and commitment to quality care. We work collaboratively to support one another while providing the highest standard of service to patients and families. Joining our team means becoming part of a supportive and professional group that genuinely cares about making a difference in people’s lives.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Every day as a Patient Experience Officer will bring new challenges and opportunities to connect, comfort, and support.
You’ll be the face of the Emergency Department, maintaining a visible presence in the waiting area, checking in with patients and their families, and ensuring strong, proactive communication between the care team and the community.
In this role, you will:
- Round through the waiting room to offer reassurance, updates, and assistance.
- Maintain clear communication between patients, carers, and clinical staff.
- Identify and escalate any concerns to ensure patient safety and wellbeing.
- Act as a patient advocate, ensuring individuals feel heard and respected.
- Support staff during busy or high-pressure periods with professionalism and empathy.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys helping others, thrives in a fast-paced setting, and understands the importance of human connection in healthcare.
About You:
You’re confident, compassionate, and capable of keeping calm under pressure. You thrive in people-focused environments where every interaction matters.
You’ll bring:
- Previous experience in a front-of-house or customer service role, ideally within a healthcare or emergency setting.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage and reassure patients and families.
- A professional and respectful approach to managing sensitive situations.
- The ability to de-escalate challenging interactions to maintain a safe and supportive environment.
- A basic working knowledge of emergency department processes or a willingness to learn.
If you have a natural ability to connect with people and a genuine desire to make their hospital experience better, this is the role for you.
What We Offer:
At Manning Base Hospital, you’ll be supported, valued, and empowered to make an impact every day.
You’ll receive:
- Comprehensive orientation and role-specific training, including emergency department processes and safety procedures.
- Ongoing support from the Nurse Unit Manager and emergency leadership team.
- Opportunities for peer connection and collaboration with fellow PEOs.
- Access to My Health Learning and other professional development programs to help you grow your skills.
- The chance to work in a team that genuinely values care, communication, and collaboration.
This is more than a job – it’s an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the care and comfort of patients, families, and the broader Mid North Coast community.
