About the role:

The Children's Healthcare Network (CHN) Paediatric Clinical Nurse Consultants cover every hospital in NSW where infants, children and adolescents are cared for outside the specialist children's hospitals. Using the expertise of clinicians throughout NSW, the CHN Paediatric Clinical Nurse Consultants support the provision of the highest quality paediatric healthcare services in the most appropriate location. The Paediatric CNC will act as a lead clinician in a clinical services team, providing an expert clinical consultancy service in Paediatrics to support the delivery of excellent patient/client care within Paediatrics across the southern region of HNE LHD.

The role of the CHN Paediatric Clinical Nurse Consultants includes but not limited to:

  • Advocacy for child health/paediatric services
  • Education for clinical staff caring for children
  • Clinical consultancy at the bedside and remotely
  • Partnerships and collaboration within paediatrics
  • Development of state-wide guidelines on paediatric care
  • Development of state-wide educational resources
  • Promotion of evidence-based best practice across paediatrics
  • Provision of a dedicated resource for paediatric services

The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) position is an integral part of the Children Young People and Families Health Network (CYPFHN), offering a unique opportunity to provide clinical leadership in paediatrics for the Northwest area of HNELHD. In this pivotal role, you will collaborate closely with paediatric level 4 wards and services at Tamworth and Armidale Hospitals, as well as smaller health locations, fostering strong communication and teamwork.

As a member of a paediatric network guided by the ACI, you will focus on optimising resource utilisation, promoting a collaborative approach to service development, standardising care practices, and enhancing staff development opportunities. Joining three other paediatrics CNCs, you will deliver expert paediatric advice and support to clinicians across HNELHD, ensuring a tailored approach to local needs. This role involves travel to various sites for education, training, and meetings, where you will lead initiatives in education, practice change, and guideline implementation, ultimately supporting evidence-based models of care.
