About the Role

Step into a pivotal leadership role as the Operational Nurse Manager – Women’s & Children’s Services, where you’ll drive excellence across maternity, paediatric, and neonatal care at The Maitland Hospital.

Working in collaboration with the Obstetrics /Gynaecology and Paediatric Medical Director, you’ll play a key operational and strategic role, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based, and person-centred care. You’ll lead a dedicated team of midwives, nurses, fostering a culture of professionalism, compassion, and continuous improvement.

This role is perfect for a dynamic and committed nurse leader who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about enhancing the experience and outcomes for women, children, and families in our community.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead and role model professional clinical service delivery, providing expert advice, mentorship, and support to nursing and midwifery staff.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships across healthcare teams to ensure seamless, high-quality care.
  • Act as a key interface between senior leadership and frontline teams, supporting open and effective two-way communication.
  • Manage and optimise resources, staffing profiles, and budgets to achieve service outcomes and key performance indicators.
  • Champion innovation and implement change initiatives to enhance service quality and patient outcomes.
  • Oversee operations across:
    • Maternity Ward – A modern, state-of-the-art facility delivering exceptional maternity services in a supportive, positive environment. Our renowned Midwifery Group Practice model is highly valued by both midwives and mothers.
    • Paediatric Unit – A 12-bed unit with 4 day-stay beds, providing holistic care for children and adolescents.
    • Special Care Unit (SCU) – A 13-bed unit offering specialised care for premature and compromised neonates.
    • Birthing Unit - Averaging nearly 200 births a month!! and the Child and Family Health Nursing team.

About You

You are an experienced nursing or midwifery leader who has:

  • Currently authorised to practice as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA
  • Relevant postgraduate qualifications in clinical leadership and management, and/or demonstrated leadership/management experience deemed appropriate for the role.
  • Driven to provide evidence-based, person-centred care.
  • Skilled in team leadership, conflict resolution, and communication.
  • Experienced in service management, performance monitoring, and staff development.
  • Confidence in strategic planning and operational leadership.
  • A commitment to building positive, respectful relationships with staff, patients, and stakeholders.
