The roles on offer:
We have positions in our Residential Eating Disorders Centre (REDC) and Eating Disorder Day Program (EDDP):
  • The REDC role is a full-time temporary position, working 38 hours per week. This role includes a combination of day, afternoon, and weekend shifts. Job share arrangements will be considered for this position.
  • The EDDP role is a part-time temporary position, working 32 hours per week across four days. The set days and hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 7:00am to 3:30pm.

  • These are Level 3 positions. However, if there are no appropriate Level 3 applicants, applications from Level 1 and 2 will be considered. The selection criteria reflects the requirements for a Level 3 applicant. Responses from Level 1 or 2 applicants need to demonstrate their level of competence with regard to the same criteria and their ability to work towards Level 3. The expected performance of the incumbent will be commensurate with his/her years of experience and current level at commencement of appointment. The incumbent will work towards meeting the criteria for Level 3.


About the service:
The baiyangbaiyaang is a statewide, comprehensive eating disorder treatment service comprising of the newly opened residential eating disorders centre (REDC) located in Charlestown and the existing Eating Disorder Day Program located in Newcastle on Awabakal land.

The NSW Residential Eating Disorders Centre is a brand new, purpose- built 12 bed facility, providing an innovative model of care for people 16 years and over with an eating disorder, within a homelike environment. A skilled multidisciplinary team provides an intensive program of individual and group interventions, using a rehabilitation framework. Interventions focus on specialist treatment for eating disorders together with addressing psychosocial disruption and overall quality of life.

The Eating Disorder Day Program service offers a group therapy program 4 days per week and is designed as an adjunct treatment to ongoing care. Clients benefit from meal support at breakfast, morning tea and lunch as well as education and skills-based groups supporting clients to tackle challenges and build the life they want to live.

About the roles:
As the Level 3 REDC Occupational Therapist, you will:
Design and facilitate a range of group and individual therapeutic interventions as part of the baiyangbaiyaang therapy team in accordance with the REDC treatment model of care for people with an eating disorder.  As a member of the REDC therapy team, work collaboratively to facilitate a positive therapeutic milieu and design/deliver/evaluate the respective models of care using rehabilitation practices to maximise client progress and sustainable recovery outcomes.

As the Level 3 EDDP Occupational Therapist, you will:
Design and facilitate a range of group and individual therapeutic interventions as part of the EDDP multidisciplinary team in accordance with the EDDP treatment model of care for people with an eating disorder. As a member of the small team you will work collaboratively to facilitate a positive therapeutic milieu and design/deliver/evaluate practices to maximise client progress and sustainable recovery outcomes. You will also undertake core functions including meal support therapy, keyworker, and group program coordination roles.

You will be linked with the Occupational Therapy clinical network of Hunter New England Mental Health, including linkage with the Occupational Therapy Head of Discipline, regular professional network meetings, access to regular supervision, ongoing education and professional development relevant to the role. Each position is supported by a senior occupational therapist, as well as having access to individual and team supervision.

  • Passionate about improving services for people with an eating disorder, ideally with experience in this clinical setting.
  • Confident in the value of occupation in recovery and able to establish the role of Occupational Therapy in these treatment settings.
  • Holds a qualification in Occupational Therapy and general registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Eligible to drive in NSW.
