About the role:
Hunter New England offers a comprehensive, supportive and diverse Intern Pharmacist experience designed to build your clinical capability in a hospital. This 12-month Internship position offers comprehensive pre-registration training aimed at preparing skilled hospital Pharmacists to meet critical needs within NSW hospitals. As part of our highly-skilled pharmacy team, you’ll be immersed in a wide range of clinical settings, gaining hands-on experience in dispensing, preparing, and distributing medications, handling discharge and outpatient prescriptions, and delivering crucial medication education to patients and healthcare colleagues.
You’ll work alongside experienced pharmacists and other allied health clinicians who are committed to your growth, offering structured supervision, regular feedback, and tailored learning opportunities to help you meet AHPRA registration standards. With access to a varied patient population and diverse clinical presentations, you’ll develop a deep understanding of hospital pharmacy practice while contributing meaningfully to patient care from day one. This is more than an internship - it’s a supported pathway to becoming a confident and capable hospital pharmacist.
Where you’ll be working:
The Pharmacy team at Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital (TRRH) is a highly experienced and collaborative team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, delivering comprehensive clinical and support services not only within TRRH but also across 12 rural and regional hospitals throughout the New England North West. TRRH is a 300-bed rural referral teaching hospital offering a broad range of medical and surgical specialties and services including general medicine, neurology, renal, cardiology, oncology, rehabilitation, general surgery and orthopaedic surgery. The hospital also provides obstetric, paediatric, and mental health care. Critical care capabilities include a Level 5 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), High Dependency Unit (HDU), and Coronary Care Unit (CCU), alongside one of the busiest regional Emergency Departments in New South Wales. This makes TRRH an exciting and challenging environment for pharmacy practice and would allow you to develop diverse pharmacy skills.
