The hospital supports the Scone community 24/7, providing emergency care, general medical services, aged care, rehabilitation, surgery and allied health. It’s a well-established facility with beautifully maintained grounds that are admired by patients, visitors and locals alike.

As part of the Engineering Department, your work will directly support clinical areas, wards, plant rooms, and outdoor spaces - ensuring staff can focus on patient care without disruption.

About the team:
The Engineering team is hands-on, practical and team-oriented. You’ll collaborate with trades, contractors, clinicians and support staff, working together to keep the hospital safe, reliable and welcoming.

It’s a close-knit regional environment where people know each other, pitch in to help, and take pride in maintaining an essential community service.

About the role:
This is a varied, practical role where no two days are the same. You’ll balance indoor maintenance work with outdoor grounds care, supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of the hospital.

Occasional, local travel to nearby Hunter New England Health sites may be required during work hours.

A typical day may include:

  • Completing routine maintenance and minor building repairs
  • Grounds and garden maintenance to keep outdoor areas safe and presentable
  • Assisting trades and contractors onsite
  • Transporting furniture, equipment and materials within the hospital or to nearby HNE Health sites
  • Identifying and reporting hazards in line with NSW Health safety procedures
  • Updating maintenance records and responding to job requests

Hours of work:

  • Standard business hours, Monday to Friday
  • Willingness to participate in after-hours on-call support when required

Why this role:

  • Variety – A mix of repairs, gardening, maintenance and practical support
  • Community impact – Your work helps keep a vital regional hospital safe and functional
  • Indoor & outdoor balance – Work across buildings and well-kept grounds
  • Practical skills valued – Ideal for someone with handyman, maintenance or trade assistant experience
  • Supportive team culture – Strong teamwork in a friendly regional setting

About you:
We’re looking for a reliable, practical and safety-focused person who takes pride in hands-on work.

You will bring:

  • Experience in maintenance, handyman work or property care
  • Confidence using tools and completing basic building repairs
  • Ability to work independently, indoors and outdoors
  • Physical capability to lift/move equipment and work at heights or in confined spaces when required
  • Basic computer skills to manage job requests and records
  • Strong awareness of workplace health and safety
  • A positive, team-oriented attitude
  • Strong time management and reliability
  • Valid NSW Driver’s Licence

Experience in gardening, trade environments, or a general understanding of building systems (e.g. plumbing, carpentry, air conditioning) will be highly regarded.

Support and development:
You’ll be supported from day one with structured local orientation, on-the-job training and mentoring from experienced team members. You’ll also have access to NSW Health mandatory training and eLearning, regular supervision from the Sector Engineer, monthly manager check-ins and annual Performance Development Reviews. Scone offers a supportive, team-focused environment where open communication, recognition and ongoing development are genuinely valued.
