Where you'll be working:
The Engineering Department at John Hunter Hospital is a large, skilled team of 51 staff responsible for maintaining critical infrastructure across the hospital campus. The department delivers both reactive and planned maintenance for all buildings on site, supporting a complex, fast-paced healthcare environment where reliability truly matters.

About the role:
As a Mechanical Fitter within the Fitting team (5 staff), you’ll be responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of mechanical systems and equipment across the John Hunter campus and its ancillary buildings.
A typical day may include:
- Reactive breakdown repairs and fault finding
- Preventive and scheduled maintenance
- Working on air conditioning and pumping systems
- General fitting and metalwork tasks
- Repairs and modifications to hospital equipment such as trolleys, IV poles, patient beds, and wheelchairs
- Working across plant rooms and clinical support areas
You’ll report to the Mechanical Supervisor and work closely with other trade-qualified mechanical staff, with strong support from the broader Engineering management team.
About you:
Non-negotiable:
- TAFE Trades Certificate in Fitting and Machining or Certificate III in Mechanical Engineering and a tradesman’s certificate of proficiency.
Highly regarded:
- Post-trade qualifications
- Experience working in large, complex facilities (healthcare or similar environments)
