Where you'll be working
District Pharmacy Services is a dedicated team of experienced and approachable pharmacists committed to supporting safe, effective, and high-quality use of medicines across the Hunter New England Local Health District (LHD). Our team focuses on medication safety, promoting best practice in the quality use of medicines, and delivering comprehensive pharmacy education and training to healthcare professionals. Through collaboration and expert guidance, we aim to enhance patient care and ensure optimal medication management throughout the district.

What you'll be doing
There’s no such thing as a “typical” day in this role — we go where we’re needed and do whatever needs doing.

The core responsibilities include:

  • Leading and supporting Quality Use of Medicines (QUM) projects and initiatives across the Hunter New England Local Health District (LHD).
  • Analysing medication usage data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Contributing to the development, review, and implementation of medication-related policies and procedures.
  • Engaging with clinicians, managers, and other stakeholders to promote the safe and effective use of medicines.
  • Receiving training to provide backfill support for the Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) Pharmacist within the VAD team at Wallsend (up to 0.2 FTE).

Orientation and ongoing support are provided by the pharmacists within the team, drawing on each member’s strengths and availability. You will also have direct access to the Pharmacy Educator, who works within the same team, and opportunities to build your skills further. This may include involvement in the rollout of the enhanced digital patient record, including the new electronic medication prescribing platform.

You’ll fit right into the team if you are:

  • A registered pharmacist with AHPRA.
  • An experienced pharmacist with a background in hospital clinical pharmacy. Bonus points if you have a keen eye for detail — and perhaps even a passion for spelling and grammar (not essential, we can help with that!).
  • A strong communicator with excellent persuasion and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Someone who works well independently but also thrives in a collaborative, team-based environment.
  • Comfortable working with and contributing to the Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) team.

Requirements

  • Eligible for registration as a pharmacist in Australia and comply with Department of Health criteria for Grade 3 pharmacist.
